This past weekend the Bishop Noll Speech team kicked off its season at the Chesterton High School Tournament on Saturday, November 2nd. Usually scheduled in February, Chesterton is one of the biggest and most competitive tournaments of the season.  

Bishop Noll’s team competed against the top teams in the area and nation. The team placed fifth over all. Junior, Jackie Vasquez placed third in Varsity International Extemporaneous Speaking. Senior, Jacqueline Milkowski finaled second in Novice Informative Speaking. Junior Ruby Meza was tournament champion in Novice Radio Broadcasting and third in Novice Poetry. 

Mr. Kevin Burgun, coach, showed his excitement for the start of the season and the team’s victory.

    “Even though we went into Chesterton with a small team that was nowhere near our full strength, we had a great day,” Burgun said. “We walked out with a team trophy, and we had some great individual performances. It is hard to imagine a better start to the speech season for us.”
