You could say that Nick Anglin is “one in a million,” but that would mean that there are currently about 7,600 other people just like him around the world. As diverse and well rounded as he is, this number is very debatable. He’s more like “one in 7,167,009,600.”
When people first look at Nick Anglin, they see a scholar and a gentleman (or a very young Stephen Colbert). At a glance, you wouldn’t be able to tell that he played Dr. Frankenstein in Young Frankenstein or that he could run circles around most people. Nick is the definition of the phrase “more than meets the eye.” Not only is he intelligent, he’s a theologian, a thespian, an athlete, a musician, and a budding mad scientist. All of the clubs and extracurricular he is in have taught him valuable lessons and shaped him into who he is today, and who he will be in the future. The list book lessons he’s obtained is a mile long, and the list of life lessons is even longer.
Nick plans on attending Indiana University – Bloomington this fall for biology. “My goal is to engage in teaching at the secondary and post-secondary level, as well as in biotechnology research with the goal of creating an organic machine fueled by glucose,” explained Nick. However, his focus won’t be solely on biology, as he will study subjects like history, theology, Latin, Chinese, and/or theater as minors. Even in college, he plans to keep the diversity in interests strong.
Throughout high school, Nick has had his fair share of struggles, like all of us have. In his athletic career, his biggest obstacle was falling several feet from a zip line. “If I hadn’t, I feel sure that I would have broken 18:00 and run at least one cross country race this year in the 17 minute range.” Along with not joining the drama department until the end of his sophomore ye
ar, these are his only regrets from high school. Although with all of his accomplishments, it would seem hard to regret any of it.
Nick accredits his success to his exceptional memorization skills and interest in analyzation. “Memory has helped me to be a good test taker and score well on lower-level assignments involving rote memorization, while my love of analysis has helped me to do well on higher-level assignmen
ts that require comprehension, connection, and evaluation,” says Anglin. He is also grateful for his teachers and always being able to understand them. However, if he had to be thankful for one thing, it would come down to his faith in God, who has always helped him along. “I’d say that God has been watching over me and giving me what I need to thrive.”
Nick Anglin has achieved all A’s throughout high school and considers this one of his greatest achievements. However, this is not his only achievement. He has done extensive work for the National Honors Society, his sports teams, and the theatre department. He also cherishes friendship
s that he has made in high school right next next to all of his academic and extracurricular achievements. He especially cherishes his friendship with Emmanuel Roldan and Marissa Rad
ziwiecki, who have helped him immensely throughout the past few years. According to Nick, “it truly must have been a feat of social engineering for a person like me to make any friends that close.”
