This spring, the Bishop Noll drama department will be presenting a unique interpretation of the play A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare. While the script will follow the original Shakespearean language, the approach to the play itself is going to be a different and will definitely make for an intense performance, according to Mrs. Elizabeth Conley, theatre director.
A Midsummer Night’s Dream is a comedy about childish lovers, amateur actors and mischievous fairies. This semi-modernized interpretation of the play is revolves around the childish nature of the unnecessary drama that the lovers create for themselves. The play will contain the original Shakespearean dialogue, along with some modernized twists in the sets and costumes. With a four-sided performance area and plenty of creative set pieces that the actors will be taking advantage of, the audience will truly have an “in-your-face-Shakespeare” experience.
Rehearsals have already begun and so has set construction. The show will take place in the “studio theatre” (Mrs. Conley’s classroom, room D114) on March 1, 2, 8, 9, 15, and 16 at 7 pm.
