The school year is coming to a close, and many of the students and staff are anxious to begin their summer vacations. Yet, they will eventually have to return to school (except, of course, for the seniors). However, Mrs. Nancy Quinn, a veteran Math teacher at Bishop Noll, will be retiring after teaching at Noll for 20 years. Over the years, she has been a great teacher for many of the students who have attended this school.
“I have taught 24 and 1/4 years total. Two and one-quarter at Jimtown High School (Elkhart, Indiana), 1 year at College of DuPage (Glen Ellyn, Illinois), 1 year at Lake Central High School, and 20 years at Bishop Noll,” says Quinn.
She has dedicated so much of her time into enlightening the minds of her students.
Not only has she taught students many valuable things, she has been taught some things as well while teaching at Bishop Noll.
“After 20 years it is impossible to only mention one thing,” she says. “A teacher must always be a student first. My students have been my best teachers, giving me insight into the different ways that they understand concepts, challenging me to learn new curriculums and try new approaches, and helping me to practice patience and to be flexible.”
While she is anxious to retire, she will definitely miss this school and the students and faculty who are part of it.
“Teaching math, especially here at Bishop Noll, has been very fulfilling for me; therefore, I look forward to tutoring. But many people know that the loves of my life are my three grandchildren, so I plan on spending more time with them. I also hope to become more involved in a couple of community organizations like Parents as Teachers, the Stephen Ministry program at my church, and Tri-Kappa, a philanthropic sorority,” says Quinn. “Bishop Noll is blessed to have so many wonderful students, families, and faculty members, so I will definitely miss the daily contact with my BNI family.”
Mrs. Quinn also had a few last words for any current and future students: “Live with joy, laugh often, love with all of your soul, and learn something new every day.”
