A second chance was all Carly Cappello needed.
Bishop Noll senior Carly Cappello was almost ready to unlace her volleyball shoes and leave them off after her last high school season.
The Times Volleyball Player of the Year as well as the Post-Tribune Volleyball player of the Year led the Warriors to Bishop Noll’s first ever State Championship in her junior season. With a hard act to follow, Cappello and the Warriors made it back to the Semi-State Championship game this past season.
Cappello’s volleyball career has been nothing but ordinary. In her senior season, she had 650 kills, setting a school record that helped her reach the career mark of 1,652. She also owns the career record in digs with 1,263. Also, she set the single-season digs record as a sophomore, with 466.
With accolades like that, it’s obvious the scholarships and Division 1 offers would be pouring in.
At 5 foot 7, it became hard for Cappello to find the right fit at the college level. She was ready to call it quits and attend Purdue University in the fall. Everything changed when Ball State University coach Steve Shondell was at a club practice checking out another recruit, but instead spotted Cappello.
Already signed and committed, Cappello’s deep love for the game will continue at the next level. Her dreams are back on track, with no sign of coming off again.
