The gravel field on the northeast corner of Bishop Noll’s campus was worn thin with last year’s playoff run. The Lady Warriors fell short to Southmont 3-5 in last season’s Class 2A Eastern Semistate Semifinal.
With a season that can definitely be proud of resting in the rear-view, Bishop Noll’s softball program is looking ahead to an even better one. With a heavy dose of returning players (10), the team is also welcoming the new generation of Lady Warriors to the gravel diamond.
The new 2A schedule is a drastic change that will bring challenging teams to 1519 Hoffman Street and the Warriors traveling there.
“I think that because our team is so young, playing a 2A schedule will help bring each individual’s self confidence to the field. We need that for playoffs,” said junior shortstop Tori Keilman.
Expectations are high for the Lady Warriors this season with a returning group of young star athletes. Sophomore pitcher Ashley Gordish takes the mound as a starting pitcher and sophomore Brittany Anderson returns to the infield.
“Our expectations are to grow into a solid core group, we’re young but we are experienced,” Anderson said.
The 2014 Times Softball Coach of the Year, Rich Sobilo, is entering into his second year leading the program. This year’s season kicked off April 4 with a win against Merrillville 7-0. The lady Warriors are currently 11-3 while picking up tough losses to Munster and Hanover and an astounding win over River Forest.
