The weather outside is frightful, 20 degrees and a blizzard once a week. You can’t stand outside for more than five minutes before turning into an icicle. Trying to play baseball in this weather is like trying to fit a circle object into a square hole. You could try but it’s going to be very hard. While we are freezing our butts off all the MLB teams will be in warm weather like Florida or Arizona for Spring Training.
Pitchers and catchers reported to Spring Training on February 6th and the position players reported on February 11th. They are getting ready for Opening day which is on March 30 for the Dodgers and the Diamondbacks and on March 31st for everyone else. The Dodgers are playing the Diamondbacks in Sydney, Australia, for the first MLB game of the season on ESPN’s “Sunday Night Baseball”. They will be playing in Sydney to help promote baseball in more countries.
The White Sox look to have a bounce back year with better talent that they acquired during the offseason. The White Sox have their Spring Training at Glendale, Arizona and their first Spring training game is February 28th versus the Dodgers. Their home opener is on March 31st versus the Minnesota Twins. The Cubs have a young team with a ton of potential and they hope to have a better season than last year. The Cubs have their Spring Training in Mesa, Arizona and they have their first spring training game on February 27th versus the Diamondbacks. The Cubs start their season on the road at the Pittsburgh Pirates and their home opener is on April 4th versus the Philadelphia Phillies. Opening Day is only 39 days away, and with baseball coming, that means that spring and summer are right around the corner. So pull out your frozen bats and gloves because baseball is right on our doorstep.
