The Resident Evil franchise is known for it’s creepy atmosphere and quite frankly disturbing antagonists. Resident Evil 6 keeps some of that creepy atmosphere, and changes the Resident Evil formula quite considerably, but not as radically as comparing the third game to the fourth game. Some argue that Res 6 is a bad game because it’s veering too far away from the resident evil formula, but I beg to differ.
In Resident Evil 6, you have a can play from three different perspectives, or campaigns, by choosing Leon, Chris, and Jake. Leon’s campaign is a more “classic” approach to Res 6, as it tries to be more slow paced and horror oriented. Chris’ campaign is full of action, and doesn’t really take any drastic stops while playing through it. Jake’s campaign is somewhere in between, but but has a giant monster named Ustanak chasing you the entire time. Ustanak shadows Res 3’s Nemesis by chasing after Jake and Sherry through the entire Campaign. And lastly, once all three of these campaigns are completed you have Ada Wong’s Campaign, which I’m sure many people remember from Res 4. Ada’s campaign as of right now is single player only, unlike the other three that allow two players to go through at once. At any time players and a friend can also play the timed survival mode “Mercenaries” to try to score as high as possible within the time limit. As far as content, Res 6 has a lot of it, and all of it’s content is worth checking out for shooter, horror, and classic Resident Evil fans alike.
The controls in the game are noticeably different, allowing players to roll around and fire weapons from the ground. Everything seems to be in check except for the cover system that Capcom tried to implement in Res 5 as well as Res 6. It’s just too much work to actually get into cover and stay that way. Honestly players are much better off just dodging bullets.
Resident Evil 6 is a great game, and it’s got some nods to older games , but it’s not exactly the same thing we got in Res 4, which is what most people wanted. I still think the game is amazing, and because of that I give Resident Evil 6 an 8/10.
