“Dance just makes me feel so good, and it keeps me in shape,” says freshman Caleigh Carpenter.
An advanced dancer that stays active in classes, Carpenter began dancing at the age of three when her mother first enrolled her at Susan’s School of Dance in Munster.
“I have been in love with it ever since,” Carpenter says.
Carpenter’s passion spans the categories, ranging from hip hop to ballet, modern to jazz, traditional to interpretive. She continues to explore the genres and keeps herself motivated by doing so.
Currently, Carpenter takes lessons at Origins Academy in Dyer and The Dance Connection in Hessville, but she also competes in national competitions, including Headliners, Chicago Dance Connection, and Starquest.
Not only is Carpenter an advanced dancer, but she also pays serious dedication to this hobby. That holds true to one of her teacher’s adages. Roberta Dominiak, who teaches ballet and pointe at The Dance Connection, tells her students to strive for dedication, discipline and desire while dancing.
“I’m so dedicated to dance. It is my life, and I can’t imagine not doing it,” Carpenter says.
Carpenter has a great passion for dance and does not plan on retiring her pointe shoes anytime soon.
