The Bishop Noll football team traveled to Rensselaer on Oct. 25, 2013, on a sectional opener. The boy lost to a score of 52-19. But just like people say, “play like its your last play”, two seniors played like it was their last play when, in reality, it really wasn’t.
Seniors Elijah Golumbeck, and Anthony Mayers will be playing next fall. Senior linebacker Elijah Golumbeck will be playing for the Marian University in Indianapolis and senior running back Anthony Mayers will be playing for the University of St.Francis in Fort Wayne. These two athletes played together for three years and played together well. Seeing them in two different uniforms will take some time getting used to, but you will see them on the same field together on Nov. 15, 2014, when the University of St.Francis will travel to Indy to face the University of Marian. But will the two friends still keep that friendship alive when they meet on the field next fall?
“I wish the best for my bro and his team, but I just don’t think his team will be ready–especially if another one of my teammates come join me from Noll. [I’m] not going to say any names, but if he comes, [Marian] won’t be ready,” Mayers said.
“We have a strong recruiting class coming in to Marian, and I think we will take the win versus University of St. Francis Fort Wayne,” Golumbeck said.
